Description: b/w 8×10 glossy print of Furnace Foundry (1946-1953), 100 E. Broadway in Jackson, a manufacturing gray-iron plant that made castings for coal, gas, and oil-fired furnaces, 1 of 12 prints in collection; Donor’s father Daniel Austin Evans was General Manager of Furnace Foundry.
Foundry built on property previously used by Star Furnace, a charcoal furnace. Furnace Foundry was built as a manufacturing plant with main building of 94,000 square feet on 11 acres of land. Peak employment of 240 with average of 120. information from Jackson Herald newspaper April 1946 announcement and 1953 closing announcement. Specifics in 1946 included 75,000 sq.ft. of floor space, office in front of building will be 90×100 sq. ft., back of office will foundry 150×340 feet, core room 40×260 feet.
