Description: Western Square Dancing quilt completed in 1985, a kit quilt purchased at a square dance convention. Embroidered and appliqued by Suda Friedman of Chillicothe, OH with quilting completed by Connie Snyder of Richmondale, OH with matching male shirt and female dress typical for western square dances.

Quilt was given to Eldon Pittenger as a gift because Eldon was an active teacher and promoter of Western Square Dancing in southeast Ohio. He called at national and state conventions for over fifty years. He founded the Wellston Wagon Wheelers Square Dance Club, which later became the Jackson Wagon Wheelers, 1950 to present (2017).

In 1993 Eldon Pittenger married Julia Sarah McKnight Pittenger who donated the quilt to the Southeast  Ohio History Center. Both Eldon and Julia are natives of Southeast Ohio.
